Pickleball Paddles for Clubs, Schools, and Company Events: A Buyer's Guide
Buying paddles for yourself is simple. Buying paddles for a PE class, a club, or fifty coworkers is a different problem: the equipment gets shared, borrowed, dropped, and played hard by people at every skill level. This guide covers what organizations should look for, how many paddles to buy, and when to choose stock paddles over a custom-branded run.
Salted City Sports is a small business based in California, started from a love of pickleball. We supply in-stock paddles for programs that need equipment now, and custom paddles printed with your logo for organizations that want their own identity on court.
Why Organizations Buy Paddles
- Schools and PE programs. Pickleball is one of the easiest sports to teach in a gym or on a blacktop: small courts, a forgiving learning curve, and mixed groups can play together. Schools need class sets that survive daily use by beginners.
- Intramural and recreation leagues. Campus and community leagues need loaner paddles for players who do not own one yet, plus consistent equipment for league play.
- Clubs and community groups. Clubs buy for their house fleet, their teams, and increasingly for matching custom paddles that make members feel part of something.
- Company outings and gifting. Pickleball has become the default company sport day. Organizations buy paddles for the event itself and as gifts employees actually keep and use.
What to Look For
Durability for shared use
Shared paddles live a harder life than personal ones. They get used by beginners who hit the ground on low balls, passed between strangers, and stored in bins. Prioritize a paddle built for regular play over the cheapest option in the bin: the cheapest paddles are the ones you replace by mid-season. Buying once, at a sensible quality level, costs less than buying twice.
Approved for league play
If your paddles will ever be used in a league or tournament setting, they should be USA Pickleball Association approved. All of our paddles are approved, so a paddle bought for open play is also legal for sanctioned play. One fleet can cover every use.
Grip sizes
A group fleet serves many hand sizes. Most adults play comfortably with a standard grip, and a mixed fleet works well for general programs. If you are buying for a specific team rather than a shared bin, ask players what they use, or talk to us and we will help you choose.
Singles or sets
Buy singles when you are topping up a fleet or replacing losses. Buy sets when you are starting from zero or equipping a new location: a set guarantees matched paddles arrive together, which keeps a class or event running smoothly. You can browse both in our pickleball paddles collection.
How Many Paddles Does an Organization Need?
The math starts with one number: a pickleball court runs four players, so a court needs four paddles on it at all times, plus spares for the paddles that will inevitably get damaged or walk away.
- One court, open play: 4 paddles in use + 2 spares = 6.
- Two courts: 8 in use + 2 to 4 spares = 10 to 12.
- A PE class of 24 students: students rotate in groups, so 12 to 16 paddles cover a class comfortably across multiple courts or stations.
- A company event with 40 guests: plan for the number of courts running at once, not the guest count. Four courts need 16 paddles in play + spares, so about 20.
When in doubt, buy for courts, not headcount, and add roughly one spare for every four paddles in play.
Stock Paddles vs Custom-Branded Runs
Stock paddles are the right call when the need is immediate: a program starting this month, a fleet that needs topping up, an event on a fixed date. They are in stock and ready to ship, with no design step and no production window.
Custom-branded paddles are the right call when identity matters: club teams that want to look like a team, schools that want their name on their equipment, sponsors at a tournament, or company gifts where the logo is the point. Our custom paddles come in three tiers, all USA Pickleball Association approved, with no minimum order and production in 1 to 3 weeks. For pricing on a custom order, reach out through the form and we will quote it for your group. Many organizations do both: stock paddles for the shared fleet today, and a custom run for the team, staff, or gifts.

Care and Storage Basics
- Store indoors, out of heat. A hot car trunk is the fastest way to age a paddle. A closet, office, or equipment room is fine.
- Use covers for shared fleets. Paddles tossed loose in a bin scratch each other's faces. Covers or a simple rack keep a fleet looking presentable far longer.
- Wipe faces down. A quick wipe with a damp cloth after heavy use keeps grit from grinding into the surface.
- Inspect monthly. Check edges and grips on a shared fleet once a month. Catch a cracked edge guard early and you replace one paddle, not a class set.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many paddles should a school buy for a PE class?
For a class of about 24 students rotating through courts or stations, 12 to 16 paddles is a practical class set. Buy for the number of courts in play, then add about one spare for every four paddles.
Are your paddles approved for league and tournament play?
Yes. All of our paddles, stock and custom, are USA Pickleball Association approved, so the same fleet can be used for open play, leagues, and sanctioned tournaments.
Should we buy stock paddles or custom paddles?
Stock paddles fit immediate needs and program fleets. Custom paddles fit teams, schools, and companies that want their logo on the equipment. Custom paddles come in three tiers, with no minimum order and production in 1 to 3 weeks. Reach out for pricing on custom orders.
Is there a minimum order for organizations?
No. There is no minimum order, for stock or custom paddles. Order a class set, a single replacement, or a full branded run.
Can you help us choose quantities for an event?
Yes. Send us your court count and guest numbers through the contact form and we will recommend quantities, including spares, for your event.
